Berlin Day 1: GO DEUTSCHELAND!

Norm:

With another commuting day comes another low-key day, travelling to the train station. This time Mandy came prepared with a lot of shows to occupy her train ride to Berlin. After a 5 hour journey to Germany's capital city, we disembarked and realized immediately that Berlin was much cooler and younger than what we saw in Munich. Also, you can tell that Berlin is a city with a deep history.

We settled into our AirBnB and ate these really good burgers for dinner at a nearby burger joint. We then headed to Brandasburg Tor to watch the soccer game along with 100,000 screaming World Cup fans. It was a really unique experience and it was very cool to watch a game like that in such an atmosphere. I can only wonder how the World Cup viewings in Brazil right now might be.

The game ended up a disappointing tie for Germany (though I had no doubts that Germany would ultimately equalize!). Leaving the Fanmeile was quite a nightmare though. All neighbouring subway stations were closed, and the streets were rammed with disappointed German soccer fans. There were a lot of firecrackers and flares that were thrown by random people and police presence made it slightly unnerving to walk back. However, we got back home (quite late) and retired for a big day tomorrow!

We were so hungry, we forgot to take the photo before we started eating
