Berlin Day 4: Pergamon & Shopping!!

Mandy:

On our last day in Berlin we purchased tickets to visit the Pergamon museum. We were very thankful we purchased our tickets in advance because the regular ticket purchase line and then the entrance line were quite long. Norm and I are not huge fans of art museums because we can't appreciate/understand most artwork. However, we were really excited for the Pergamon museum because we love learning about history! The museum houses re-constructed monuments from the Middle-East such as the Pergamon Altar, Ishtar Gate, and a Roman market gate. It was one of my favourite museums I have ever visited because it was the first museum that I have been to that has reconstructed entire massive monuments. Although only a small percentage of the re-constructed monuments are original, it provides a glimpse of how breath-taking the monuments once were. Also, we haven't been to many Middle-Eastern history museums so it was refreshing to learn about another aspect of our world history.

Hard to capture the entire gate

After 2 hours at Pergamon, we (Mandy) was very excited to finally go shopping!! Unfortunately it started to rain pretty hard when we were walking to the metro to go to the shopping area but that did not prevent us from going! We arrived at Kurfurstendamm area where there are over 100 shops and where KaDeWe is located. KaDeWe is a well-known luxury department store that has a food floor on the 6th floor. We imagined it would be like the food floors we've experienced in Seoul and Bangkok but the one in Berlin was much more tame, smaller, and offered less diverse cuisines. Nonetheless the food we ate was pretty yummy. After our tummies were full we were off to Norm's fave store: Uniqlo! It is the largest Uniqlo in Europe. I noticed that it had a lot less people than other Uniqlo's we've visited. After some more shopping along Kurfurstendamm, we headed to another area to check out Galerie Lafayette (it is much smaller than the one in Paris). We were pretty tired after a very long day of walking. We went back to our area, Norm got 2 doners (his eyes were bigger than his stomach) and I got 2 slices of pizza from a very busy shop. We were too pooped and hungry to take a photo of our dinner *gasp*.

Lunch on the 6th floor of KaDeWe (schnitzel was better than it looked)
